What was their role in the past, what is it today, and where are they headed?
The aim of this talk is to explore the evolution of unit testing—from the classic principles found in books like Working Effectively with Legacy Code (often rooted in C++ experience) to our current modern landscape heavily shaped by AI. Together, we will examine how generative AI is reshaping this space.
With AI now capable of generating test suites on its own, how does the developer’s responsibility shift? Drawing from real-world development experience and insights gained from consulting with various engineering teams, this talk outlines how AI tools change the way we write, maintain, and think about unit tests.
