Meetup #1: Forming habits & teaching C++ / Report from Varna committee meeting

Please join us for our first ever official C++ Helsinki meetup! We will be meeting at the Aalto University's Business School for a series of talks and discussion about the C++ programming language. The content for this meetup includes:

Jari Ronkainen - Forming habits and teaching C++

Jari will talk about how C++ habits form while teaching and learning, and how they propagate forward. We will discuss what makes C++ special in this regard, and what conciderations it warrants and should warrant for both teachers and learners.

Lauri Vasama, Mark Gillard, and Timur Doumler - Report from the ISO C++ Committee Meeting in Varna, Bulgaria

Lauri, Mark, and Timur are attending the C++ committee meeting in Varna during the week before this meetup - and they will talk to us about what happened there! Mark and Lauri will share their impressions of attending their first ever committee meeting, and talk about the process of how to submit your own proposal and how to start participating in standardisation work. Lauri will also present his proposal on distributed arrays (P2889R0). Finally, Timur will give an update on the latest developments with Contracts, a new C++ feature targeting C++26.

Where & when

This meetup will take place in room T003 in the Business School building, from 18:00. The street address of the building is Ekonominaukio 1, 02150 Espoo. Please be on time, as we will have to leave the room at 20:00 so we cannot afford a late start! At 20:00, the technical content of the meetup will conclude, and we will move on to a nearby bar for snacks, drinks, and socialising.

Anyone interested in the C++ programming language is welcome to attend! Note however that the room has space for 40 people maximum, so attendance is limited to 40 guests. Please RSVP if you plan to attend, and please cancel your RSVP again if you find out later that you cannot attend so that someone else can use your slot.

Below are some maps that will hopefully help to find the place.

Map 1: The circled things are the metro station entrance and Fat Lizard restaurant and the arrow indicates the main entrance of the Business School building.

Map 2: The two arrows are the main entrance and the lecture hall.

We’re looking forward to seeing you all there and having an amazing first C++ Helsinki Meetup!
