Do you want to learn new DIY skills? Maybe you enjoy coloring or painting, needlework, costuming or cosplay, woodworking or woodburning... This is a safe space for LGBTQ+ folx and allies to organize get-togethers around creating, crafting, and learning new skills.
I really want to keep this group as accessible and affordable as possible. Being a Meetup organizer costs me around $350/year, though. So I'm asking for a membership fee contribution of $1/mo, or $12/year from all members. Meetup.com will prompt you to pay membership fees, so if you'd like to remain in the group, please pay through the Meetup app. I have tried to keep this group free or as low cost as possible, but I cannot afford to pay the full $350+ per year on my own. Thank you so much for contributing!
If we're using supplies that are costly, I may ask for a sliding scale, pay as you can OR bring your own supplies setup. We will offer occasional paid workshops, because folks who share their time and expertise to teach us skills should be paid for their time. If you want to chip in additionally for supplies for individual meetups, please use my personal venmo: @StephEldridge89. (If you pay through Meetup.com, they keep a percentage of your payment.)
Some potential topics on the list:
sewing/hemming, origami, woodburning, cross stitch, taking plant cuttings for propagation, painting mini figurines (ex: for D&D or tabletop games), creating foam armor for cosplay, knitting and crochet, whittling/carving/engraving wood, watercolor painting, linoleum block printing, shibori and tie-dying clothing/fabric, repurposing cigar boxes into guitars or functional art, general canvas painting - mixed media, learning basic coding/programming, 3D modeling and printing, and more!
