Guest Marvin Banks is well-known for his accomplishments in commercial real estate acquisitions, development, education, and advisory within the Southeast and Texas markets. Currently, Mr. Banks is President of M Banks Realty Partners, Multifamily Chairman at SHR Residential, and an Advisor to HelloPackage, a package logistics software firm for CRE. In addition to his current roles, Mr. Banks is on the advisory board of UA SREIF, Nirvana Capital, and the Satori Collective. Mr. Banks has a reputation for his advisory, education, and philanthropy, previously teaching a course on REITs in the graduate school at Emory University for 14 years, serving on the faculty at the University of Texas at Austin and in the graduate/doctoral program at Georgia State University, and serving as Chairman of the Children's Museum of Atlanta, Chairman of the Georgia Council for International Visitors, and Chairman of the NFL Youth Education Town.
Prior to his current roles, Mr. Banks was a leader in the evolution of partnerships under the Trammell Crow umbrella into an industry leading public company listed on the NYSE - Gables Residential and retired upon its sale to ING in 2005. While at Trammell Crow, his responsibilities concentrated on capital markets activities, external communications, and strategic planning. After the IPO, Mr. Banks was instrumental in developing numerous innovative capital markets products that allowed the company to be one of the first of its peers to achieve an investment grade balance sheet rating from Moody's and S&P. He also helped lead the firm's evaluation, negotiation, due diligence, and integration of M&A activity including a $365M acquisition and the ultimate sale of Gables to ING for $2.8B. Mr. Banks also served a tenure as President of Cortland, where he oversaw the on-boarding of property management operations, organizational infrastructure, strategic planning, and capital markets efforts as the firm evolved from 2,000 apartments to 11,000 apartments in a 3-year window to become recognized as an industry leader.
