New Discussion Class on "Green Burials and Family-Friendly Memorials" begins March 13!
The purpose of this 3-session series of discussions is to give ourselves the opportunity to think about and discuss with others about planning for future death care in a safe environment. We will explore the movement to return to more home-based funeral practices, and the increasingly vital green burial movement. We will discuss what role local organizations can take in future planning for more family-friendly memorial services and funerals for our community.
The class will rely on materials from the Green Burial Council and other non-profit sources. The class will be in discussion format, so there is no one single “right answer” to how you plan for the inevitable. Our major objective is for each of us to address the question: “how can we use our final act to reflect the values that mattered most to us in life?”
A few of the key questions we will discuss are: 1. How can we use our final act to reflect the values that mattered most to us in life? How can we minimize pollution and pesticide use and reduce carbon emissions for future generations, and preserve more natural land for green and sustainable use for native flora and fauna? 2. How can we encourage more family-friendly and environmentally responsible memorial services and funerals for our community? How can we plan to create in advance an authentic spiritual experience around my passage and have my family supported in their grief process?
Please join this 3 session class to discuss how to find and implement more environmentally sustainable alternatives to the conventional funeral system.
Please R.S.V.P. to attend the discussion sessions either through this website for each date as announced, or by e-mail: firstname.lastname@example.org

More About Us:
Each Fall and Spring we offer a discussion series using a book or topic on a topic that helps us "create meaning" in our lives.
Create Meaning is a fresh and relevant source for spiritual growth, where you can find resources for your spiritual journey, connect with others, and engage in the world to make it a better place. We offer a thought-provoking book, or an audio or video, slide show, or guest speaker, followed by group discussion. Examples of our prior discussions include sessions on "Environmental Justice," "Non-Violent Communication," the "Mind-Body Code", "The Spiritual Brain," "Seeing Systems: Peace, Justice, and Sustainability," "Pathways to Natural Spirituality," "Our Cosmic Connection," "Immigration Justice," "Hope," "Hindsight, Humor, and Hope", "Building Your Own Theology," and more.
Our mission is to help people grow in spirit and service. We here in Visalia are part of a new nation-wide effort. For more information, see: www.createmeaning.org.
We will be offering additional programs in the future - please register on this Meetup Group site now to receive notice of this and future programs, and to R.S.V.P. your attendance:
