Kitchener Coffee & Conversation - Good Intentions
Details
POSTPONED DUE TO WEATHER
Despite our best intentions we will have to postone this until Thursday, December 11th. Hope you can make it then.
—————
The intention for this week is to have a well-intentioned conversation about good intentions. I was thinking this would be a positive and uplifting topic, but it turns out there’s a lot of negative quotes about good intentions.
So let’s go deeper into some of these quotes to see if there’s any truth to them…
- Why do they say “the road to hell is paved with good intentions”? What can get in the way of our best intentions?
- Is there any truth to the expression “no good deed goes unpunished?”Have your good intentions ever caused a negative response or effect?
- Do you agree that “the smallest deed is better than the greatest intention”? What matters most, someone’s actions or the intentions behind them?
AI sums it up like this, “Quotes about good intentions often highlight the gap between good intentions and actions, emphasizing that without action, intentions are meaningless”. But of course this is just one angle on things so there’s lots more to talk about.
I couldn’t find any quotes about seemingly positive actions that mask bad intentions to balance things out, but after some searching I found this expression that offers a bit more positivity…
“But remember that good intentions pave many roads. Not all of them lead to hell.” - Neal Shusterman
As long as your intentions are good, as I’m sure they are, you’re more than welcome to join us this week. And as far as I’m concerned your good intentions are enough :) Hope to see you Thursday!
LOCATION:
To accommodate our growing numbers and need for a quieter space we will be meeting in a church community hall listed below (this is not a religious gathering).
Community Hall
414 Fisher-Hallman Rd (view map)
Kitchener, ON N2M 4Y1
NOTE: The RSVPs here represent only some who may attend this recurring discussion group (such as 1st timers) along with regular attending members who may not RSVP here.
In this safe, inclusive, casual, and accepting environment, dialogue is encouraged over debate. No particular set of beliefs (or creed) is required. Whether to discover yourself amidst a community on a common journey or to find meaning among new friends, there is room at the table for you.
See you there!
