While gossiping after last week’s conversation (don’t worry it wasn’t about you and it was all good things) we started talking about some of the positive aspects of gossip and white lies that we don’t always think about.

I heard someone point out recently that gossip and white lies can play an important role in empowering vulnerable people in communities where speaking to things directly is unsafe.

But of course there’s a negative side to gossip and white lies to look at as well, so let’s have a nuanced conversation about all aspects of it by considering these questions…

  • Have you engaged in gossip or told white lies and if so what purpose did it serve for you/others either positively or negatively?

  • Do you think it’s inherently wrong to talk about other people or to stretch/omit the truth? When might it be appropriate and when is honesty and minding your own business a better approach?

  • Do you have any juicy gossip? The good kind of course ;)

If you’re thinking about joining us but can’t get out of work, maybe this is one of those times where a white lie might serve a good purpose. I’m kidding so don’t let me be a bad influence. But if you do have the time we’d love for you to join us :)

LOCATION:
To accommodate our growing numbers and need for a quieter space we will be meeting in a church community hall listed below (this is not a religious gathering).

Community Hall
414 Fisher-Hallman Rd (view map)
Kitchener, ON N2M 4Y1

NOTE: The RSVPs here represent only some who may attend this recurring discussion group (such as 1st timers) along with regular attending members who may not RSVP here.

In this safe, inclusive, casual, and accepting environment, dialogue is encouraged over debate. No particular set of beliefs (or creed) is required. Whether to discover yourself amidst a community on a common journey or to find meaning among new friends, there is room at the table for you.

See you there!
