Hi Everyone
I'm holding a fun, fundraiser in downtown, near Stanley Park. And promoting this thru a few meetups and will expect 30+ people. With some prizes being handed out. I feel like it’s important to have fun & it feels good to help make a difference. Make a difference by doing some real-time, local good and dream of long-term, global good, at the same time.
As a result, half of all proceeds will be donated to the wonderful Hearts on Noses Pig Sanctuary located in Mission, BC and the other half will go to vegan micro-finance entrepreneurs. Here's some info about the former, http://heartsonnoses.blogspot.ca/.
About the latter, for those who don't know, microfinance is a form of investing money (usually small amounts) in entrepreneurs that helps them create a sustainable business. Doing so is the difference between people living on the street, begging for food or entrepreneurs having a home, food on the table and the resources to feed, clothe & educate their children. Usually the entrepreneurs are women and reportedly their loan repayment rate is nearly 98%. Meaning 98% of the money is returned to the investor or put into other entrepreneurs.
I want to invest money, into entrepreneurs with vegan business ideas. Still working on details, it's definitely a long-term project, but I'm getting the ball rolling and hopefully will figure out details along the journey and will attract like-minded folks with similar ideals, ambitions and passions, so that together we can create the optimal impact.
There's an expression,
- `Give a man a fish, feed him a day,
- teach him how to fish, feed him a lifetime,'
- & I would add, if you teach an entire community how to fish, and take care of it's fishery, then they can feed themselves for generations & centuries to come.'
Setting aside, the non-vegan & gender politics part of the phrase, I tend to see creating constructive change as doing all of the above three steps, Giving to those who can't do for themselves, (ie giving a fish), training those who can be self-sufficient (ie teaching how to fish), and 3rd transforming the problem and changing the paradigm (training communities to feed themselves).
I am happy to collaborate and work with like-minded, good hearted people, who want to do more good. Right now I have 3 people on this event, me, myself & I:-)
