What if robots weren’t just built for us, but with and for animals? Artist and roboticist Ian Ingram creates machines that live among and collaborate with wild animals and creatures such as squirrels, woodpeckers, lizards, ravens, rats, worms, pigeons, and rabbits. His robotic creations speak in signals, gestures, experimental languages, trying to form connections within shared ecosystems, what biologist Jakob von Uexküll called the Umwelt.

During our Zoöp meetup on the 10th of July, Ian will share his work and reflections during a guest talk. He explores two parallel pursuits: a deeper understanding of the natural world through robotic encounters, and a reimagining of what robots could mean to us. Not as instruments of control, but as playful participants in conversations across species.
His work blends art, science, and speculative storytelling to explore how machines might take part in the messy, rich webs of meaning beyond the human. Join us to discover how robots can do more than serve, they can also listen, gesture, and respond. See you there?
