Barbara Gocníková is a multidisciplinary artist from the Slovak-Hungarian border whose practice often focuses on site-specific and multisensory installations. Her work explores the complex relationship between the individual and their surroundings, drawing on both intimate personal experience and broader sociological concerns. Aiming to move beyond the visual, she incorporates senses such as taste, smell, and touch, including ephemeral elements that fade or transform over time. Through this expanded sensory language, she creates atmospheres that invite intimate dialogue between the viewer and the surrounding space - blurring the lines between observer and participant, and opening space for shared experience and collective storytelling.

During her residency at Prostor, she will focus on material research for the ephemeral components of her installations and further develop the integration of taste and smell through community-based research.

During her residency, Barbara will hold a workshop on December 3rd, and an afternoon of open studio (December 15th, 5-8PM), during which anyone interested can come to Prostor to talk to her and see what she is working on.

workshop “The Language of Taste”: December 3rd / 18 - 20h

The Language of Taste is a community-based research workshop exploring how emotional and cultural memories are encoded in taste. The aim is to create a shared sensory vocabulary that connects participants through collective acts of tasting, storytelling, and making.
Building on the artist’s ongoing research into taste and smell as artistic materials, the workshop investigates how sensory experience can express emotional states. We will explore how taste operates both as a personal memory and as a social language - a way of communicating what is often difficult to express verbally.
