Ever looked at a beautiful building or café and thought, I wish I could paint that?
Join us for a relaxed, beginner-friendly two-hour workshop where we’ll experiment with watercolor, learn a few fundamental techniques, and explore how to use light, color, and simple shapes to bring an urban scene to life.
No previous watercolor experience needed.
✏️ What we’ll do
🎨 Learn the basics of watercolor — Explore simple techniques like washes, layering, mixing colors, and creating different levels of light and shadow.
🏙️ Simplify an architectural scene — Learn how to look at a building or café and break it down into simple shapes before adding color and details.
💧 Explore light & shadow — Learn how to use lighter and darker washes
to create depth and make your sketch feel more three-dimensional.
🌈 Work with a limited palette — Discover how a few colors can be mixed to create a wider range of colors without needing a huge collection of paints.
🖼️ Create your own watercolor sketch — Choose from our prepared architectural reference images and create your own small painting.
👩🎨 Get guidance & feedback — I’ll demonstrate the techniques and walk around throughout the workshop to help you with your individual painting.
✨ Share & reflect — We’ll finish by sharing our paintings and what we discovered along the way.
🎨 What’s included?
Watercolor paints, brushes, watercolor paper, pencils, and other basic materials will be provided. You’re also welcome to bring your own watercolor set and favorite brushes if you have them.
✨ Who is this for?
Anyone who wants to try watercolor, learn some fundamental techniques, explore architectural sketching, or simply spend a relaxed evening making something.
📍 Where are we meeting?
We’ll meet at a community space in Berlin Mitte. The exact location will be provided after booking.
✨ Who am I?
I’m Rui, a former architect who later moved into corporate product design before finding my way back to art. I’m now a self-taught watercolor artist passionate about urban sketching and creativity.
You can find my artwork and creative journey on Instagram: @rsong.studio
Through my own journey of learning to paint, I’ve found that you don’t need to be naturally “good at art” to start. You just need a way to look at things differently — and a little practice.
Come join me for a relaxed evening of watercolor, learning, and experimenting. 🎨✨
