Spec it, Shoot it, Share it! - Creative Photography Group

What's this meetup about?

This meetup is all about creativity, teamwork, and real-world practice. Inspired by a spec campaign project (like the one in this video), we'll be working in small groups to concept and shoot a mini brand or product campaign — even if the brand doesn’t know it yet.

The idea? Spec work. You’re creating a set of photos as if you were hired to shoot a campaign. This is something professionals and aspiring photographers alike do to build portfolios, explore creative ideas, and show the kind of work they want to be hired for.

The exercise

1. Come prepared: Think of a product or brand yourself
   → Real or made-up — something you’d enjoy photographing
   → Bring props or gear if it helps bring the idea to life
   → Need inspiration? Check out this list here!
2. During the meetup: Form small teams (3–5 people)
3. Pitch your idea to your group
   → Vote or mix ideas to choose one campaign concept
   → You will work out at least one idea in your group
4. Brainstorm a simple campaign concept
   → Think of the mood, message and aesthetic
   → Optionally: create a mini moodboard or sketch a few shot ideas first
5. Go out there and shoot your campaign
   → You can use gear, props and you can model amongst yourselves
6. Share your results with the group
   → Take your photos, edit them, set them up in a little presentation or PDF
   → Think about how you would present your work to the client

• Shooting with Intent: Thinking like a brand photographer.
• Problem Solving: Working with what you have, where you are.
