Mapping the City Through Touch – A Rubbing (拓印) Experience
Life in big cities is inspiring, but we often treat our surroundings as mere utilities, losing touch with their textures and stories. This workshop invites you to slow down and see the city anew. We’ll walk, observe, and collect patterns from everyday surfaces—tree bark, fences, stone walls—using the traditional technique of rubbing (拓印). With cotton stamps, ink, and rice paper, you’ll create a “city map”: a tactile collage capturing your personal journey through the urban landscape.
This workshop complements Jinny Street Gallery’s current exhibition, Big City Bathing (森林浴)—a call to immerse ourselves in the city’s hidden layers.
