July 4th Fireworks and adventures in northern AZ

Details

Let's spend the July 4th weekend in northern Arizona. The fireworks show in Winslow happens every year, is donation funded, and is about 20 degrees cooler than Phoenix.

Here's what I'm thinking: visit the Petrified Forest/Painted Desert (enter at the eastern entrance) on July 4th before making our way to Winslow. Dinner at La Posada (if it's too pricey, we can go to a more reasonable sports bar near "the corner"). Watch the show--I usually just do the fireworks/pre-show, getting to the high school stadium between 7:00-8:00 p.m. There's a parade that starts at 6:30 by the pool, and the fireworks show starts around 8:30 p.m.

For July 5th, we can head over to Flagstaff and check out the Museum of Northern Arizona and/or Flagstaff Arboretum. The arboretum usually takes about and hour; the museum can take about 3 hours to visit.

The address for the fireworks is East Mulberry Street in Winslow--at the Emil Nasser (high school) stadium.

Where to stay in Winslow? I highly recommend La Posada Hotel. Because this trip will require coordination, send me a message on Meetup if you're coming so we can exchange cell phone numbers.
