Enframing the Present: Reading Heidegger on Technology
Details
We’re launching the Critical Futures Collective with Martin Heidegger’s The Question Concerning Technology — a short but profoundly influential essay that asks what technology really is beyond devices, apps, and machines. Heidegger argues that modern technology doesn’t just change the world around us; it changes how the world is revealed to us, and in turn how we understand ourselves.
It’s a dense, provocative text that lays the groundwork for thinking about subjectivity, acceleration, and the pressures of the digital age — exactly the terrain this group will explore. We’ll approach it through close reading and shared inquiry, working passage by passage rather than offering summaries or lectures.
The essay is compact enough to discuss in one meeting, but rich enough to merit a second. If the conversation demands it, we’ll happily continue in a follow-up session.
