Cambridge Dungeon Theory and Critical Play
Details
We are hosting an informal gathering for those interested in the academic and critical side of Dungeons and Dragons. If you enjoy analyzing game design, exploring the history of the dungeon crawl, or discussing how tabletop mechanics influence the way we tell stories, this is the space for you. Our goal is to move beyond the table and look closer at why these games function the way they do and what they say about our approach to collaborative play.
The event will be a relaxed, low-stakes discussion where everyone is encouraged to share their perspectives or simply listen in. Whether you are a researcher, a long-time dungeon master with a penchant for theory, or just curious about the critical study of play, you will find a welcoming group here. We are aiming for an open conversation rather than a lecture, so please bring your questions and any observations you have been mulling over lately.
If you think you might be able to make it, please let us know by hitting the RSVP button so we can get an idea of the numbers. We look forward to seeing you there and diving into the weeds of dungeon theory together.
