Topic: The 40-Year Evolution of America's Plutocracy

Everybody knows that since the Citizen’s United decision, corporations and individuals with deep pockets can spend whatever they want to advertise their candidates into office. But very few people know that the Citizen’s decision was the culmination of a movement that began in the 1970s, a movement that could have righted an overly liberal nation and media, but instead, now threatens to destroy our democracy, economy, and way of life.

Come and see how a dozen or two individuals have used ambition and disinformation to feather their own nests in a government-corporate plutocracy, and in doing so, have transformed our nation from its identity and potency in reason and opportunity to one of selfishness and make-believe ideologies that pander to the weaknesses of the “left behind.” Ideologies that redefine underlying concepts like freedom, economics, and education. They reinterpret our First Amendment, create economic nostrums like supply-side economics, and educational programs like No Child Left Behind. These are all branding over function, all sophistry over reason, all intended to capture swing votes, so predators can win elections at the expense of our people, society, and nation.

Speaker: Jack Carter is an author, engineer and businessman, who says, he’s become an expert on disinformation – that is, information that benefits providers more than receivers. If our colleges were really serving America’s needs, Disinformation 101 would be the hottest subject on every campus.
