Florida Atheists, Critical Thinkers & Skeptics. Message Board › TO SPEAK UP OR REMAIN SILENT ?

HA HA !"

Good Morning !
Yes, Good Morning to all those who claim to be 'Critical Thinkers'.
It is time now for your 'Critical Thinking Exercise' for today.

If you are a member of a minority, should you remain silent ?
Do minority people have the right of Free Speech ?

For those of you Critical Thinkers, who have escaped from a Religious
Cult, do you remember when you were a Jesus Freak, and you were
willing to speak up and spread the Gospel of your Risen Saviour ?
You were not ashamed of your love for your Risen Saviour !
And if you worshiped a different Freak, then just reword the question.

Yes ! You were willing to chance persecution and death, ridicule and
loss of job and family, to witness for your Lord and Saviour.
Are you as strong in your support of your current 'beliefs', or, do you
prefer to remain silent and hope no one notices your lack of enthusiasm
for the 'Divine' ?

For those of you who DID NOT escape from a Religious Cult, you can
disregard this discussion, as you will probably not understand it.
No Offence Intended ! That's Just The Way Life Is !
Think About It ! Give it some Critical Thought !
You don't know that liquorish taste nasty, until you have tasted it !
You don't know what it is like to escape from a Religious Cult,
until you have experienced the escape !
(And then get you mouth and your mind)
(washed out with Infidel Colgate !)

Man faces five years for 'God does not exist'.

Indonesian atheist faces jail time.
A 31-year-old man in Indonesia was arrested for declaring
'God does not exist' on Facebook.
Atheism is illegal in the country of Indonesia.

Aan was charged because he used Facebook to spread beliefs that violate the law. Furthermore, it was pointed out he lied on his job application by saying he was Muslim.

Summary: 31-year-old Alexander Aan faces up to fives years in prison after he declared himself an atheist on Facebook. The Indonesian man is in protective police custody because he fears physical assault.

31-year-old Alexander Aan faces a maximum prison sentence of five years for posting "God does not exist" on Facebook. The civil servant was attacked and beaten by an angry mob of dozens who entered his government office at the Dharmasraya Development Planning Board on Wednesday. The Indonesian man was taken into protective police custody Friday since he was afraid of further physical assault.

The posting was made on a Facebook Page titled Ateis Minang (Minang Atheist), which Aan created. At the time of writing, it had over 1,700 Likes. Aan's posting has been removed, but supporters on the Page are urging police to release him.

Dharmasraya Police Chief Sr. Comr. Chairul Aziz said the district branch of the council and other Islamic organizations believed Aan had defiled Islam by using passages from the Koran to denounce the existence of God and highlight his atheist views. "So it meets the criteria of tainting religion, in this case Islam," Chairul told The Jakarta Globe.

On Facebook, Aan said he was brought up as a Muslim. In 2008, however, he came to the conclusion that God could not exist. In addition to his comment about the possibility of a deity, he also declared that he did not believe in angels, devils, heaven, hell, as well as other "myths." He was aware he could lose his job and was prepared to do so to defend his beliefs.

Atheism is a violation of Indonesian law under the founding principles of the country. Indonesia, the world's most populous Muslim nation, recognises the right to practice six religions in total: Islam, Protestant, Catholic, Hindu, Buddhism and Confucianism. Atheism is, however, illegal. According to Indonesian criminal law, anyone who tries to stop others believing in a faith could face up to five years in jail for blasphemy.

Aan was charged because he used Facebook to spread beliefs that violate the law. Furthermore, it was pointed out he lied on his job application by saying he was Muslim. Aan asked police investigators: if God really exists and has absolute power, why doesn't God prevent bad things from happening in this world?

And you wonder why Joseph does not have a Facebook Account ?
Stop wondering, and use your Critical Thinking !

Wholy Joseph

From what I understand, the literal translation of what he said was more along the lines of "if god exists, show him to me" so it wasn't even an assertion or an attack on any religion in particular(concerning the post in question, I don't know about any others because I can't read indonesian) if anything the authorities are making his atheism more valid because instead of trying to argue the merits or evidences for their beliefs they just expect everyone to accept a belief of some sort no questions asked. Any religious society that has to punish those who question or criticize them, I see that as an indirect declaration of their insecure beliefs. "How dare they put me in a position to reevaluate my beliefs and answer for them, I can't think of anything- Through him in the dungeon and bring me my earplugs and holy book!!"

Of course the irony will be lost on those that attack a non-believer even as I am sure they preach that Allah is love.

There own violent reactions (remember the Dutch cartoons that cost many lives worldwide?) ought to inform them of the ignorance of their beliefs.

While perhaps more subtle events occur here I am still glad that I can post something like this with little fear of my life!

"The New Atheism" of the 'Five Horsemen'.

"New Atheism is the name given to the ideas promoted by a collection
of 21st-century atheist writers who have advocated the view that
"religion should not simply be tolerated but should be countered,
criticized, and exposed by rational argument wherever its influence arises."

Critical Thinking ::
The argument from nonbelief (or the argument from divine hiddenness)
is a philosophical argument against the existence of God. The premise
of the argument is that if God existed (and wanted humanity to know it),
he would have brought about a situation in which every reasonable person
believed in him; however, there are reasonable unbelievers, and therefore,
this weighs against God's existence. This argument is similar to the classic
argument from evil in that it affirms inconsistency between the world that
exists and the world that should exist if God had certain desires combined
with the power to see them through.

The Internet Infidel site ::

"As defined by Paul Draper, naturalism is 'the hyposthesis
that the natural world is a closed system, which means
that nothing that is not a part of the natural world affects it.'
Thus, 'naturalism implies that there are no supernatural
entities'----including God."

"There was a time when religion ruled the world.
It is known as the DarkAges." ---

Christianity Has Been Destroyed (2012) by Michael D. Reynolds

The April 9, 2012 issue of Newsweek International contains a
refreshingly honest jeremiad about the degenerate state of
American Christianity ("The forgotten Jesus") written by Andrew
Sullivan, a confessed Christian. Mr. Sullivan does not ascribe his
and other persons' "thirst for God" to indoctrination. Instead, he
attributes it to three questions, which he calls "the profoundest
human questions" and describes as "pressing and mysterious":
What happens to us after death? How did humanity come to be
on this remote blue speck of a planet? Why does the universe
exist rather than nothing? The purpose of this essay is to answer,
or provide sources of answers to, these questions.
Christ's Ventriloquists: The Event that Created Christianity (2012)
by Eric Zuesse.

Christ's Ventriloquists is a work of investigative history. It documents
and describes Christianity's creation-event, in the year 49 or 50,
in Antioch (present-day Antakya, Turkey), 20 years after Jesus
had been crucified in Jerusalem for sedition against Roman rule.
On this occasion, Paul broke away from the Jewish sect that Jesus
had begun, and he took with him the majority of this sect's members;
he convinced these people that Jesus had been a god, and that the way
to win eternal salvation in heaven is to worship him as such.
God and the Folly of Faith: The Incompatibility of Science and Religion
(2012) by Victor J. Stenger.
It has become the prevalent view among sociologists, historians,
and some theistic scientists that religion and science have never
been in serious conflict. Some even claim that Christianity was
responsible for the development of science. In God and the Folly
of Faith, physicist Victor J. Stenger shows that this conclusion flies
in the face of the historical facts.
