What we’re about

CriticalMass is on Twitter! Follow us @TokyoCritical :)

We are a place for politically-conscious people to learn together in a supportive environment, and make friends in the process. We are open to readers from all parts of the Left, regardless of specific affiliations/tendencies, levels of political experience or involvement in particular causes.

Our reading and discussion addresses intersecting oppressions such as class, race, sex and gender, and sexuality. We read both canonical and contemporary texts from various traditions (including Marxist, Anarchist/Syndicalist, environmentalist, feminist, anti-racist/colonialist, Critical/postmodernist, and more). Our selections are based on (i) diversity of authorship, (ii) accessibility and (iii) topicality.

Discussions are in English, but we enthusiastically welcome people of all linguistic and national backgrounds. We’re especially keen to bring together Japanese and foreign-national residents of Tokyo. Those just passing through are very welcome too.

(Ours is a safe space for all: respectful and constructive disagreement is welcome, but personal attacks that echo any of the oppressions the group opposes are never tolerated.)

Please sign up and circulate. Our first Meetup will be announced shortly once we have enough registered interest.

In solidarity,

CriticalMass: a Tokyo Radical Book Club
