Business and Politics: Companies Making Statements on Social Issues
Details
We as individuals express our views on political and social issues all the time, but what about when businesses do the same? Is that a good thing or a bad thing? Should your local grocery store be expressing their views on controversial issues? Should your hardware store? What about your employer? What are the implications of a business taking a political stance?
Come and share your thoughts with fellow members about businesses making statements about current issues.
- When, if ever, should a business make a public statement on a current issue?
- Does your answer change based on the size/reach of the business? (e.g. a small local business vs. a larger corporation)
- What are the consequences of public statements by businesses? What about the consequences of NOT making a statement?
- Which is more important, a business’s public statements or their actions and policy?
Note that there are many related topics such as Political Action Committees (PACs), Supreme Court decisions like Citizens United, or offshore manufacturing that we won't be going in detail in this meetup. If there is interest in discussing these related topics, we can do so in a separate meeting.
Join the Crossing Party Lines discussion and have a voice in our Nation’s Conversation! People of all views are welcomed, appreciated, and heard.
Please plan to arrive at the beginning of the meetup for Meet & Greet before we sit down for conversation.
