Moral Foundations

Details
FIRST discussion of CPL - Long Island “Skill Building Mixed Media Club”.
THIS IS AN ONLINE EVENT.
Moral foundations refer to the fundamental principles or values that underlie and shape people's moral judgments and ethical reasoning. Moral Foundation Theory is often associated with the work of psychologists Jonathan Haidt and Jesse Graham who identified six basic moral foundations: Care/Harm, Fairness/Cheating, Loyalty/Betrayal, Authority/Subversion, Sanctity/Degradation and Liberty/Oppression. According to Haidt & Graham, these foundations are the building blocks of human morality, influencing how individuals perceive and respond to ethical dilemmas and social issues.
For this FIRST discussion of our “Skill Building Mixed Media Club”, members chose the topic of Moral Foundations. We will come together to discuss what insights members had and answer questions such as:
- What are your thoughts about Moral Foundation Theory?
- Which moral foundation(s) hold the most weight in your life? And why?
- What new insights did learning about this model provide you?
- Did any insights that you gleaned about your group or another group surprise you?
- Have you asked anyone in your life about their moral foundations? Who would you want to ask and why?
- How, if at all, has this new way of thinking impacted your way of seeing our political polarization?
Although not necessary, it would be helpful to have read / watched/ listened to something from the resource library (link below) to fully participate in the discussion.
