Is the American Dream Still Alive?

For generations, the “American Dream” has been part of our national story — often connected to opportunity, stability, freedom, or the chance to build something better. But each of us encounters that idea through our own life experiences.
At this meeting, we’ll reflect on how the American Dream has shown up — or not shown up — in our own lives and communities.

We’ll explore questions such as:

  • When did you first begin forming ideas about what kind of life was possible for you? Who or what influenced that?
  • Can you share a moment when you felt hopeful about your future — or uncertain about it?
  • How have your family background, community, or circumstances shaped your sense of opportunity?
  • Have you witnessed someone in your life pursuing their version of the American Dream?
  • What do you hope people in your community are able to experience in the years ahead?

This conversation isn’t about defending a position. It’s about listening to one another’s stories and discovering how our experiences have shaped the way we see possibility.
Please do your best to arrive at the beginning of the meeting – once we are in breakout rooms and the conversations have started, the meeting doors close to new arrivals. The breakout rooms open (and the doors close) approximately 15 minutes after the hour.
