Tax Policies in Our Lives
Taxes are one of the ways we contribute to the services and systems that support our communities — from roads and schools to emergency services and public programs. Yet most of us experience tax policy not as abstract debate, but in very practical ways: in our paychecks, property bills, business decisions, and everyday expenses.
At this meeting, we’ll reflect on how tax policies show up in our own lives — and how our experiences shape the way we think about contributing to shared needs.
We’ll explore questions such as:
- When do you most notice taxes in your own life? What does that moment feel like?
- Can you remember a time when you felt your tax dollars were well spent? Or a time when you questioned how they were used?
- Have changes in tax policies — local, state, or federal — ever directly affected you or someone close to you? How?
- How have your work, income, family situation, or business experience shaped the way you think about taxes?
- When you think about contributing to shared public services, what values matter most to you?
This conversation isn’t about defending a tax plan. It’s about listening to how people experience contributing to — and benefiting from — the systems that support community life.
Please do your best to arrive at the beginning of the meeting – once we are in breakout rooms and the conversations have started, the meeting doors close to new arrivals. The breakout rooms open (and the doors close) approximately 15 minutes after the hour.
We would love to hear your thoughts on our social media pages.
