When God taps you on the shoulder, even in retirement!

Derrick Willard will recount how an unexpected phone call from a friend turned into a three year effort to build and launch a tool to be used by 950 overseas missionaries in 11 different languages to establish thousands of new believers in their faith journeys. You will hear a bit of his story and have a look at the progressive web app we launched in 2024 (https://discapp.jfhp.org/)

Derrick Willard is the founder of Springfield Software which focuses on creating mobile productivity apps with a faith-based emphasis. Prior to retirement from Sprint, he managed a variety of large IT projects and was certified as a Project Management Professional. After college Derrick began his career with a five year stint at Campus Crusade for Christ (Cru) which lit his passion for discipling new believers, a practice he continues today meeting men individually to do “life on life” together.

His next project will likely be a web-based tool to read the Bible daily and journal together in closed groups of invited individuals.

Derrick lives in Lee’s Summit, MO with his wife of 48 years and is Dad to two daughters and Papa to eight grands. When he’s not with the family or coding he’s cycling gravel trails with friends.
