Crypto Fest 2025
Dear Crypto Cape Town Members,
We are excited to host the 7th edition of Crypto Fest at Workshop 17, V&A Waterfront, next Friday, 14 November.
As valued community members, we are offering you a 25% discount on Standard and VIP tickets!
This year’s theme centres on institutional adoption of digital assets, stablecoins, blockchain technology, and regulation, reflecting crypto’s rapid maturation. Institutions now dominate investments, Bitcoin ETFs are gaining momentum, and real-world asset (RWA) tokenisation plus inflation hedging are driving adoption across Latin America and Sub-Saharan Africa.
In South Africa, Ripple’s October 2025 partnership with Absa Bank—Africa’s largest—has launched institutional-grade crypto custody, a landmark step in regional blockchain integration. Ripple will join representatives from FNB, Absa, Nedbank, and Standard Bank in person to discuss this milestone.
Stablecoins (predominantly USD-pegged) are the critical bridge between traditional finance and on-chain economies, enabling yield generation, FX, and efficient settlements.
Global regulatory frameworks like the EU’s MiCAR, U.S. GENIUS Act, and FATF Travel Rule strike a balance between compliance and innovation. From PayPal and Visa to BlackRock, major players are embedding stablecoins—insights we’ll unpack to position Africa at the forefront of the on-chain future.
In line with our main theme, Carel van Wyk (ex-Luno, now CEO of Money Badger) will join Pick n Pay’s Deven Moodley to explore Bitcoin payments via Pick n Pay and beyond.
Traditional financial institutions are actively evaluating and implementing bitcoin strategies. Recently JSE listed - Altvest Capital, rebranded to Africa Bitcoin Corporation (ABC) and now offers investors Bitcoin as a long-term corporate reserve asset alongside listed securities!
Key sessions include:
- Navigating Institutional Crypto Adoption in South Africa: Challenges and Opportunities for Hedge Funds, Asset Managers, and Pension Funds
 - How Banks Are Approaching Their Digital Assets Strategies
 - Building Africa's Digital Economy: How Stablecoins Are Becoming the Infrastructure for Future Finance
 - Demystifying Crypto Taxation in South Africa: Navigating Compliance, Capital Gains, and Income Tax in the Digital Asset Era
 - Bitcoin and Ethereum as Strategic Reserves: Strengthening Nation-States and Corporate Treasuries in a Decentralised Financial Era
