YES – The Case for XRP:
Supporters of XRP emphasize its speed, scalability, and efficiency. They argue that XRP offers a viable solution for cross-border payment with growing institutional adoption. In 2025, optimism arises following Ripple’s settlement of a five-year legal battle with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Supporters point to Ripple’s strategic collaborations with the World Economic Forum (WEF) and the recent launch of the Ripple Stablecoin (RLUSD). Additional momentum comes from successful lobbying efforts again a Bitcoin-only treasury, resulting in the potential inclusion of XRP in the strategic cryptocurrency reserve of the US. On top of that Ripple applied for a banking license earlier this year and after the Bitcoin and Ethereum Exchange-Traded Fund (ETF) approved in 2024 a XRP focused ETF seems to be close now.
On the other hand, beyond Ripple itself advocates of the XRP Ledger (XRPL) Community, are doing what builders do: They build. Independent developers, free projects and companies building on XRPL. With no connection to Ripple they are showcasing the broader ecosystem’s innovation and resilience.
NO – The Case against XRP:
Skeptics don’t really discuss XRP at all. While Bitcoin is the immaculate perception – the first use-case of blockchain technology - that is almost impossible to replicate, more complex use-cases that require Smart Contracts are build on Ethereum, Solana, Avalanche, Cardano, Algorand, Polkadot etc. All of these have millions of monthly active users, active developer communities and little to no overlap or adoption of and with XRPL. Since no technological or financial innovations come from the isolated XRP ecosystem that is largely dominated by Ripple that received a staggering 80% of the total pre-minded XRP supply and lags behind in Smart Contract capability, user adoption and tokenization.
