Fireside chat with NY AG Candidate Khurram Dara
Topic: Role of state AGs in crypto policy in 2026 and beyond
About:
Khurram Dara is a candidate for NY State Attorney General, seeking the Republican nomination to take on incumbent AG Letitia James. Khurram is a self-described crypto lawyer and most recently led Regulatory & Policy at Bain Capital Crypto. He has previously held roles at Coinbase, Fluidity (acq. by Consensys) and began his career at law firms Cahill Gordon and Orrick Herrington in New York. He first began advising projects in the crypto space in 2017.
Khurram is running on a pro-innovation platform, focused on ending lawfare, enforcing the law, and creating a better business climate for builders in New York. He has called the "bitlicense" unlawful and has pledged to make regulatory reform a cornerstone of his agenda if elected. He has also called for ending regulation by enforcement and curbing the office's use of the Martin Act, which he says has been abused by Letitia James.
He currently lives in Williamsburg with his wife and newborn son, and grew up in Buffalo, NY. He's a graduate of Columbia Law School, Emory University and Williamsville North High School.
