BASIC CONCEPTS ABSTRACT
Introduction to Docker

Docker is an open source engine that enables any application and its dependencies to be encapsulated as a lightweight container that will run consistently and virtually anywhere. It’s emerged as one of the fastest-growing open source projects, and is already having significant impact in the worlds of Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS), DevOps, scale out, and cross-cloud computing.

This session will teach you why Docker is an important technology, where it came from, and how to use it to make useful application containers. Bring along your Linux based laptop or VM with the latest version of Fedora (preferred) or Ubuntu and play along.

MAIN TOPIC ABSTRACT

Gearing up Docker with geard

So Docker provides the foundation for image and container management, but how do I bring a complex multi-container application together? geard is a command-line client and agent for integrating and linking Docker containers into systemd across multiple hosts. It is the core of the next generation of OpenShift Origin (a Platform-as-a-Service) and helps administrators install and manage the components of their developers' applications.

In this session you will learn how you can take your Docker containers to the next level of application orchestration using geard.
