TOPIC ABSTRACT
Cast Out the Daemon with Buildah

Would you like to have an alternative to Docker for building container images and debugging containers in a Kubernetes cluster? In the last couple of years there have been major innovations in Linux container technologies. The Open Container Initiative (OCI) has been a catalyst for many of these innovations. The Buildah project builds on the underlying OCI standard for container images. Building on the open source containers/image and containers/storage projects, Buildah provides a simple CLI for building OCI compliant images and it does not require Docker including the Docker daemon. Once you’ve removed Docker how do you debug your containers in your deployment environment? Podman implements the same CLI as Docker. So much so, that William’s entire Docker man pages have been copied over to Podman. Now you never need a Docker daemon running. Buildah is now in 1.0 and has come a long way in just the last 6 months. In this session, you will learn how Buildah can help simplify your container build pipeline. Buildah can build from existing container images, from existing Dockerfiles, or simply from scratch. If you know Docker you will not need much of a demonstration of Podman but we will show it’s CLI parity.

Join us as William Henry from the Red Hat will be discussing the use cases for Buildah for those not currently using containers or looking into using containers in their environment along with a demo. It was a fan favorite at the KubeCon booth.

Bring your questions and appetite for this special event with our Buildah expert and food provided by TEKSystems.
