You hear the name Brunhild and think we must be talking about some busty woman with a shield and spear, wearing braids and a helmet, singing for hours on end in a Wagner opera. That’s Brünnhilde. Brunhild and her sister-in-law Fredegund were queens who ruled over an area that encompassed modern-day France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, western and southern Germany, and swaths of Switzerland for over 50 years during the Dark Ages.
