Humanist Explorations - "Black Narcissus"

Details
The April 15, 2023 book group will discuss this book by the English writer, Rumer Godden. In advance of this, our Explorations group will view the brilliant 1947 film screenplay written and directed by The Archers production Company. This was the collaborative partnership of Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger, the great British team of the 1940's. Set in India, on the eve of Indian independence from Great Britain, this psychosexual drama stars Deborah Kerr and Kathleen Byron. A dystopian approach to a tale similar in nature to that of the utopian "Lost Horizon", it is filmed in the advanced Technicolor three strip process resulting in incomparable brilliance. With exceptional cinematography and the extensive use of Matte Painting, this was a ground breaking advance in motion picture technology.
** Note that we're starting a bit earlier than usual.
