Discussion - What to the Slave Is the Fourth of July?

Details
We will start with a potluck dinner at 1:30 pm, followed at 2:15 pm by listening to the historic 1852 Frederick Douglass speech that has come to be known as "What to the Slave Is the Fourth of July?" — as timely today as it was then. We will hear a performance by Ossie Davis which runs 25 minutes. This Frederick Douglass speech has been delivered by a number of well-known actors over the years, often in abbreviated versions. The Ossie Davis rendition is the full speech, and perhaps the best of the performances. Manny Ratafia will then moderate a discussion.
Please bring a dish to share. Coffee and tea will be provided. If you plan on bringing a baked dessert such as cake, pie or cookies, e-mail Manny Ratafia at manny@ratafias.com to let him know what you will be bringing. (In past similar events, there were too many baked goods.)
