Talk Abstract:
Transitioning from being an individual engineer to any sort of engineering management role is not easy. Yet, it is particularly common in fast growing tech startups, especially in the early stages — strong engineers with great technical chops suddenly find themselves leading teams… and people.
In this talk, we will explore a few common pitfalls of this transition, how to make it as painless (and rewarding) as possible for everyone involved, and attempt to define a framework to think about engineering leadership in general.
