Exploring EB-6: A Conversational AI-Powered ROS Robot - Software Edition!
Details
## Details
Join us for our next Portland Area RoboTics Society (PARTS) meeting on February 2nd for a deeper dive into the software that powers longtime robotics enthusiast Dave Shinsel’s latest ROS-based robot, EB-6. Last time, Dave focused on EB-6’s mechanical and electrical design; this meeting will highlight the software stack—including conversational AI (ChatGPT) and advanced vision processing—that brings EB-6 to life.
Standing two feet tall, EB-6 uses ChatGPT for conversational AI and sophisticated computer vision to interact with kids (and adults!) in a fun, engaging way. **Dave’s website, dshinsel.com**, showcases over 15 years of his personal robotics projects—including EB-6, the 3D-printed Sheldon (featured in a Microsoft Surface commercial), and Loki (featured at Maker Faire and on Intel’s Twitter). He and his daughter also won SyFy’s “Robot Combat League” with their bot, Crash!
### What to Expect
- A quick recap of EB-6’s hardware (covered in our last session)
- An in-depth look at the software behind EB-6’s ROS integration, including ChatGPT and vision processing
- Dave’s tips, tricks, and lessons learned for developing AI-driven robotic systems
- Q&A on software architecture and practical robotics challenges
Whether you’re a seasoned robotics hacker or simply curious about the software side of AI in robotics, you won’t want to miss this follow-up presentation. Learn from Dave’s experiences and get inspired to bring your own robot to life—both in hardware and in code!
We look forward to seeing you there!
