I can't think of another dish so deeply steeped in tradition like the pot of Sunday sauce. As a (once) Roman Catholic Italian, the ritual was an extension of life.

Join me for a nice pot of Sunday sauce, with bread for dipping, and a small feast of 'companion' dishes. My sister says I spend too much time making it, perhaps she's grown impatient. But good things take time, as does this sauce. I make it the way my mother did, as her mother did. Does two days seem too long to you?

Sunday dinners were always at 6pm. Dinner for eight, me included. I know! It's rare that I join you.

Tonight's menu:
Mom's Chopped Salad
Spaghetti with Mama Cirignano's Meatballs and Sauce
Sausage and Peppers or Braciole (maybe both!)
Eggplant Involtini
Rustic loaf

Torta de Mele ~ traditional Apple cake
Vanilla Rum Panna Cotta with Salted Caramel

$45pp BYOB suggestion: an Italian (ideally) red table wine.
