Eat Smart Culinary, Cultural, and Safari Tour to Eastern India
Tour Dates: March 2 to 17, 2025
Join local culinary travel professionals, Joan Peterson and Susan Chwae on this multi-day tour as we travel through Eastern India's culinary gems and Central India's forests. The Eastern part of India is fertile, mysterious and still untouched by the impact of over tourism. A stay at the restored boutique hotels in the countryside of Bengal is an opportunity to visit and experience this area at your pace and interest. There are tribal cultures to be seen, traditions to be experienced, food to be savored and rural vignettes to be photographed. Pench National Park in Central India, named after a river that cuts through the heart of the jungle and creates a dramatic setting with large boulder like rocks, dotted with teak and ancient varieties of fig trees.
Have the option to extend your journey to Agra to visit the Taj Mahal, the Crown of Mughal architecture in India. The origins of the city of Agra can be traced to the days of Mahabharata, the epic poem of Great India when it was called Agrevana, meaning 'the edge of the forest.' Agra served as the capital for the Mughal Empire during the 16th and 17th centuries and flourished as a center of art, drawing inspiration from Persian, Islamic, Turkish, Byzantine and Indian styles. It has been immortalized ever since by the Taj Mahal - a magnificent marble mausoleum that epitomizes love, yet Agra has so many more monuments that tell a rich narrative of the tides and times of this era.
