Movie Screening: The Broken Landlord (Züğürt Ağa)

🎬 Film Screening: The Broken Landlord (Züğürt Ağa)
Directed by Nesli Çölgeçen | Turkey, 1985 | Comedy, Drama | 102 min
Synopsis:
Set in the village of Haraptar in southeastern Turkey, the film follows a wealthy, idle landowner whose comfortable life is turned upside down by drought and betrayal. As villagers steal his crops and flee to Istanbul, he is forced to sell his land and move to the city with his family. Having never worked a day in his life, he struggles to adapt and ends up selling his possessions one by one — his prayer beads, cigarette case, ring, whip, boots — until he survives by making and selling çiğ köfte on the street. A humorous yet bittersweet portrait of a feudal landlord’s fall and a changing era.
