Curatorial Statement (excerpt):
The exhibition title, “Terminal Island,” takes its name from the nearby industrial port landscape – a site of arrival, transit, and transformation, citing its history of incarceration, violence, labour, and migration. Across two April afternoons, we move from collective performance (Day 1) to a literal hot pot/melting point (Day 2). The hot pot is not a metaphor but an action: strangers sharing broth, cooking together, reaching across a table. Heat is the common element – in performance labor, in boiling soup, in April sun over San Pedro.
