What we're about

COVID -19 - Please note that all events are limited to 6 persons (including the host) unless it’s a ‘virtual’ event. Mountain Rescue have asked us to be very prepared for any venture onto the fells and to avoid taking risk, therefore routes that are posted need to be straightforward with no extra hazards eg scrambles . We need to respect the lives of our Rescue Teams...No beginners or inexperienced hikers at the moment , thanks. Please note that the Lake District National Park are asking us not to venture onto the high fells at all .

Thanks and best wishes to all of you

Welcome! We are primarily for people living in or around Cumbria and charge annual membership of £5 per year which is due within 2 weeks of joining so please read all the info within this section to learn more about what we do and then click on join if we appeal to you!

We are network of friendly people who like doing various stuff. All members are encouraged to suggest and to arrange events via the site. There's no committee so it’s up to all members to contribute by coming up with ideas and hosting events so don’t be shy! It's really a case of getting out of it what you put into it.

For 2020, our membership fee is £5.00 This covers the period January to December and is used to pay the bill we are charges by the Meetup company. New joiners will be asked to pay this fee via Paypal as part of their joining process. This payment needs to be made within two weeks of joining else your membership will lapse. When you request to join, please ensure that your personal settings are set to 'allow organiser to email you' and then you will be sent a message with instructions on how to pay. Check that this email hasn't gone directly to your 'junk' folder. You can also Click here to see the instructions (https://www.meetup.com/cumbrian-friends/pages/22559753/How_to_pay_and_avoid_your_membership_lapsing/)

- The serious bit. We are a social group. We do not employ professional guides, leaders or first aiders on our hikes and walks. Please be aware that the walks posted on this site are not ‘led’ as such. Everyone should ensure that they are adequately prepared and dressed for the walks and for high fell walks we need you to have a bit of previous experience too. Any doubt - just ask the host for info before you sign up for the event. Our Event Hosts or other members cannot be held responsible for your safety or well being. - It really helps us if your photo looks like you..! It means we have a fighting chance of spotting you at your first event.

- Occasionally, Lakeland weather being what it is outdoor events can be cancelled at short notice. Please check the board for any updates prior to setting off.

- It's very rare that people RSVP yes and then don't show up, but it can happen. If you can't make it please try and give us some notice and contact the host. we don’t want to be waiting for you if you have changed your mind about coming along.

That's it! If you have any questions please let me know.

Hope to meet you soon,
