Regardless of whether you have read the book, take the time to go through the summary ( it will be published on Substack a few days before our event ) - it will help to ground the conversation on an even level for everyone on Saturday. It is not AI-written - I write all summaries & think pieces myself, and I aim to make them as in-depth as I possibly can.

Book of the Month

In our last chapter with Giovanni’s Room by James Baldwin, we witnessed David’s agonising self-denial in his quest to preserve his manhood. Both he and Hella seem unable to unchain themselves from the societal expectations imposed upon their gender, willing to forgo self-acceptance as the price of conformity — the ultimate aspiration.

Baldwin presents characters performing roles dictated by society, roles in which both are ultimately subordinate to its will — yet where women’s existence remains invisible and secondary to men.

It is this fundamental premise that we now explore with Invisible Women by Caroline Criado Perez — a book that examines the systemic ways in which women have been erased from healthcare, education, public policy, and the structures of a world that has long positioned men as the default.

Grounded in extensive research from the US, the UK, and around the world, this sharp and compelling exposé uncovers the invisible biases embedded in our systems — challenging us to confront a reality we have been conditioned not to see.

For the discussion, we’ll divide in smaller groups of around 4-6 as to have a more intimate environment to facilitate conversations where everyone can feel welcome to participate at their pace.
