What we’re about
This Meetup group is for those dealing with fibromyalgia, ME/CFS (myalgic encephalomyelis/chronic fatigue syndrome) or chronic pain from other conditions who wish to get out, network and socialize with others who understand our fluctuating symptoms and limitations. Although supportive, this is not a support group. Of course, we will discuss current research, treatment options, local healthcare providers and coping skills that work for us. But we primarily aim to see old friends and make new ones, talk, laugh, and do fun, interesting or productive things together—despite the chronic pain and fatigue. Finding a way to ease the physical, mental and social isolation that comes with chronic illness can have a positive impact on our health.
The group welcomes supportive family members and friends, and other caregivers, advocates and activists. Events and activities will evolve over time based on the interests and abilities of the participants. Possibilities include:
• Meet at restaurants for meals or drinks.
• Read and discuss books or articles selected by members.
• Share knowledge and resources on current research, treatments, health professionals and coping.
• Get involved in educating local medical professionals and increasing awareness in the community.
• Attend movies, plays, concerts or do other low energy activities together.
• Participate in group classes or therapies together.
Although eventually speakers may be invited to present to the group, informal soliciting by service providers will not be tolerated. Individuals joining to promote or sell products or services will be removed.
