Lawmaking 101

Details
Post-election plans: focus on the states! With all happening under the new administration, we must stay vigilant. We're getting together on February 4 (postponed from Jan 8) to learn about lawmaking in Virginia, measuring the effectiveness of state legislators, and what’s happening in the 2025 Virginia General Assembly. Come early (6:30) for networking before speakers start at 7:00. There will be time for Q&A and more networking afterward.
Guest speakers are Professor Craig Volden and Delegate Amy Laufer. Professor Volden, UVA Batten School of Leadership and Department of Politics, directs The Center for Effective Lawmaking. The Center has compiled a database to measure the effectiveness of nearly every state legislator in the U.S. Volden's most recent book, “Why Bad Policies Spread (and Good Ones Don’t)”, explores the conditions under which governments learn from one another’s policy experiences and why that process often goes awry.
Delegate Laufer will talk about her bills and where our priority issues stand at the midway point of the General Assembly. Plus she has a gift to present to C’ville NOW.
