Litter Picking Meetup: Hydraulic & Hillsdale Cleanup

Join us as we clean up the Hydraulic and Hillsdale lot!

We're meeting at the former Kmart parking lot at 1801 Hydraulic Rd. We'll work the full perimeter of the lot — the curb edges, landscape islands, and fence lines where wind and traffic push trash and it collects.

This is one of the busiest commercial corners in town, a spot thousands of people pass through every week to shop and run errands — and a clean, cared-for lot changes how the whole intersection reads.
It matters downstream too: this lot drains directly into Meadow Creek, and a parking lot is close to all pavement, so there's nothing to catch litter before a rain washes it into the storm drains and straight to the creek. Meadow Creek flows to the Rivanna, so what we pull off this perimeter is trash that never makes it into the water.

We provide all the equipment — grabbers, bags, gloves, and safety vests. Just bring clothes you don't mind getting a little dirty and comfortable closed-toe shoes. It's August, so bring water and sunscreen too.

Come help us keep the Hydraulic and Hillsdale corner cared-for — and keep this trash out of Meadow Creek and the Rivanna it feeds.
