Emmet Street & Holiday Drive Cleanup

Join Cville Litter Pickers for a two-hour cleanup along one of Charlottesville's busiest corridors.

We'll work the area around the former Kroger lot, the Holiday Drive area, and the stretch of Meadow Creek between the 250 Bypass and Hydraulic Road. Trash islands have built up in the creek itself — debris collected against banks and snags that won't move until someone pulls it out.

Why it matters: Thousands of people drive, walk, and bike this corridor every day, and a well-used walking trail runs right alongside it. What we pull out changes what neighbors and trail users see on an ordinary afternoon. It also keeps that material out of Meadow Creek, one of the city's key waterways, which carries everything it collects downstream to the Rivanna.

Volunteers have pulled more than 150 bags of litter out of Charlottesville and Albemarle over the past month of Saturday cleanups. This one keeps that going.

What to know: This site involves creek banks, uneven footing, and roadside work along a high-traffic corridor. Best suited to adults and older teens rather than an all-ages outing. Part of the crew will be working in the water to break up the trash islands — if you have waders and you're comfortable in the creek, bring them. Plenty of work on dry ground for everyone else.

What to bring: Closed-toe shoes, long pants, water, and gloves if you have a pair you like. All equipment provided. Look for the CLP sign.
