Commonwealth Drive Cleanup

Join us as we clean up the trail and wooded buffer along Commonwealth Drive!

We'll meet at 2001 Commonwealth Drive, Charlottesville, VA 22901. Look for the CLP sign. We'll work the informal trail that runs from the 29th Place road along the Costco retaining wall — including a gathering spot along the way that has built up a heavy load of bottles and cans — then clear the drainage way beside it and the wooded strip between Commonwealth Drive and the tree line.

This is a corridor neighbors and employees move through every day, and right now nothing about it says anyone is looking after it. Two hours changes that. It's also a direct line to the water: this whole area drains straight into Meadow Creek, so everything sitting in that drainage way is one hard rain from the creek. What we pull out on October 3rd never gets there.

We provide all the equipment — grabbers, bags, gloves, and safety vests. Just bring clothes you don't mind getting a little dirty and comfortable closed-toe shoes. Long pants are a good call here — there's brush, uneven footing, and a lot of broken glass. Bring water.

Come out for two hours and leave this stretch better for the people who walk it every day, and a load of trash lighter for Meadow Creek.
