West Main Street Cleanup
Details
We're going back to West Main. On August 8 a crew worked this corridor and filled 45 bags without ever leaving the first lot — the litter was that dense. This cleanup picks up where that one stopped.
The focus is the strip between West Main Street and near the train tracks, where trash has built up along fence lines, tree lines, and the back edges of the lots. We'll also work the neighborhood streets south of West Main: curb edges, storm drains, and the gaps along sidewalks that never get swept.
This is a corridor people live on, walk, and arrive in Charlottesville through — for anyone stepping off a train, the strip along the tracks is the first thing they see of the city. Right now it doesn't look like anyone is paying attention to it. Two hours of work changes that, and it keeps a lot of plastic and glass out of the storm drains along the way — everything that collects by the tracks eventually washes downhill toward the Rivanna.
We have clearance from the lot's management company for the event. Park toward the outer edge of the lot so spaces stay open for passengers, and look for the CLP sign.
All equipment provided.
