Michie Drive, Meadow Creek & Rivanna Trail Cleanup

Kick off a double-header Saturday: help us get Meadow Creek and a stretch of the Loop de'Ville route clean the day before the festival!

Park along Michie Drive near Region 10, 2000 Michie Drive, Charlottesville, VA 22901. Park on the road, not in Region 10's lot. Look for the CLP sign.

We'll work Meadow Creek and its banks, the Rivanna Trail, and the Meadow Creek pass-unders beneath the 250 Bypass and Hydraulic Road. We'll also clean up Michie Drive, Brandywine Drive, and the Hydraulic Road stub. This stretch is on the Loop de'Ville route, so it'll be ready when hikers, runners, and riders come through on Sunday.

Got waders? Bring them. Meadow Creek has elevated bacteria levels right now, so no sandals or open-toed shoes. Wear closed-toe shoes you don't mind getting wet or muddy, and cover any cuts or scrapes.

Kids are welcome with a parent or guardian. Families will work the streets and trail, not the water or the pass-unders.

These streets and this stretch of trail connect neighborhoods, businesses, and a well-used section of the Rivanna Trail, and the people who use them every day deserve a clean route. It's also where Meadow Creek runs under some of the busiest roads in town. Every storm carries what's on these banks downstream into the Rivanna and the James. What we pull out on Saturday doesn't make that trip.

We provide all the equipment: grabbers, bags, gloves, and safety vests. Just bring clothes you don't mind getting dirty, long pants, and water.

This cleanup is in partnership with the Rivanna Conservation Alliance and the Rivanna Trails Foundation. We've pulled more than 400 bags of litter off Charlottesville streets, trails, and creek banks since late July. Come help us add to it!
