Speaker Bios:
DC Kelly Thorburn
I have 13 years police service, starting in response policing before moving to a Proactive Unit dealing with drugs supply, serious and organised crime and housebreaking enquiries. I then worked for 3 years in an Intelligence role before joining Cybercrime Investigations with the Specialist Crime Division. Since joining the department over 3 years ago I have undertaken a number of courses in relation to Digital Forensics, Networking, Malware investigation and cryptocurrency investigation.
Cybercrime Investigations are a small team based in 3 offices around the country, covering the whole of Scotland. Our primary focus is serious Cyber dependent crime such as ransomware attacks affecting businesses, however we also support a range of other enquiries including proactive enquiry in relation to online forums, serious and organised cybercrime, network intrusion, as well as cryptocurrency frauds and thefts.
Ian Thornton-Trump CD is an international speaker and commentator on strategic threat intelligence and cyber security. Drawing on 25 years of experience in security, intelligence and information technology, Ian is happy to provide a dynamic and interesting presentation on contemporary challenges in cyber defence and threat actor activity. From 1989 to 1992, Ian served with the Canadian Forces (CF), Military Intelligence Branch; in 2002, he joined the CF Military Police Reserves and retired as a Brigade Public Affairs Officer in 2013. After a year with the RCMP as a Criminal Intelligence Analyst, Ian has worked as a cyber security analyst/consultant for multi-national insurance, banking, and regional health care verticals. Today, as Chief Information Security Officer for Cyjax Ltd. (UK) & Chief Technical Officer of Octopi Managed Services Inc. (Canada), Ian has deep experience with the threats facing small, medium and enterprise businesses. His research and experience have made him a sought-after cyber security consultant specialising in operational threat intelligence and architectural cyber defences for enterprise organizations. In his spare time, he enjoys gardening, history, and electronic dance music.
Stu Hirst is currently CISO at leading consumer review website Trustpilot.
He was instrumental in building Skyscanner’s Security team from 2015-2017, having led
them to the final of SC Magazine’s Security Team Of The Year 2017.
He has previously worked in security at The Trainline, was part of the Cyber Leadership
Team at Capital One UK, Photobox Group and Interim Director at Just Eat Takeaway.com
He has twice been nominated as a finalist for Cyber Evangelist Of The Year at the Scottish Cyber Awards, once for CISO Of The Year and is one half of Cyber Scotland Connect.
Stu has key-noted at numerous leading Security events such as InfoSec Europe, Cloud
Expo Europe, BSides and Future Of Cyber Security.
