Details

We'll take a route that combines a lake, a wood, a tower and a cake place - so basically a fairytale?

Route:

  • We will start at 10:00 at the Kreillerstrasse-side entrance to U2 Josephsburg (corner of Kreillerstrasse and Else-Rosenfeld-Strasse (exactly where the map pin is, at *https://maps.app.goo.gl/jh8hsQzfB1UjPbJV9*
  • We will go east out of Munich to Keferloh, where after only half an hour or so we can stop for an early beer or late breakfast.
  • We then continue for a bit over an hour to Grafing, where it would be criminal not to stop at Cafe Kreitmaier for some fantastic cakes.
  • Tuck in, because from there it's another hour of riding through the woods, followed by a steep but very short climb on foot, to get to the observation tower near Ebersberg, where we take in the views of the Alps.
  • After that, we luckily have a watering hole at Forsthaus St. Hubertus in the middle of the woods, after less than half an hour.
  • We continue through the wood until Markt Schwaben, our final destination, where we finish the ride with dinner at Schweiger Brauhaus.
  • From Markt Schwaben, you make your way home, either by S-Bahn (station is 5 minutes from our dinner stop), or on the bicycle in case you haven't had enough cycling (but i will not lead that).

Approximate route: *https://maps.app.goo.gl/dnCzp1H8WJJmq7mB7*
(The weather forecast for Sunday is a pleasant but not too hot 25 degrees - but if it should get unexpectedly hot, may reroute slightly to take in a swim spot)

Ride characteristics:
Distance: not too long, but a good amount of cycling (about 60km). (If you are not sure if you wil make the whole ride, there is the option to finish early after half the ride, and return by S-Bahn from Grafing)
Surfaces: mix of mostly quiet roads, bike paths and and gravel tracks. Any normal bike will make it, but super skinny racebike tires are not recommended.
Elevation: on the easy side of medium difficulty - no hills except for one steep but very short one, no real elevation gain, but quite a few minor, easy ups and downs. Any normal bike will make it, but depending on your fitness level a bike with decent gears is recommended.

What to Bring:

  • A well-maintained bike
  • Helmet (strongly recommended)
  • Water
  • Weather-appropriate clothing
  • Spare tube/pump/tools
  • Some cash for lunch

Rules:

  • Be at the meeting point on time, or a few minutes early - we intend to start the ride at 10:00.
  • If you sign up, but then cannot make it, make sure to cancel BY SATURDAY NOON at the latest, so somebody from the waiting list can take your spot.
