Sunday Ride: 7th of June
Details
On Sunday, the 7th of June, we'll leave promptly at 10.30 am from Proper Cycling & Coffee (26 Keymer Rd, Hassocks BN6 8AN).
We will leave at 10.30 am from Proper Coffee in Hassocks so if you want a coffee, please get there early. From there, we will head up to Hickstead via the delightful Pookbourne Lane. From Hickstead we will continue into the High Weald climbing steeply into Warninglid where we will have lunch outside the Half Moon. There is a grassy area for those of us bringing sandwiches. I will aim to get us there by 12.30. After our lunch (around 1.30) we will head south to Woodmancote and Fulking, before turning east to Poynings and beginning the climb up the Downs to Devil's Dyke. There is another café at the top of the Dyke if you fancy a cup of coffee, and participants can then either make their own way back to Brighton or Hove, or return with me to Hassocks.
The ride is 34 miles, entirely on roads. Most are very quiet, but we will cross the dual carriageway at Hickstead using the roundabout (which is a good one as these things go). After the recent weather, we can expect roads to be mucky, so mudguards are advisable. The hills are steep, so make sure your brakes and gears work. There is a village shop, so please bring a packed lunch or eat at the pub.
Please note: All our rides are weather-dependent. If the weather looks bad, the ride will be cancelled!
If you plan to come on any of our rides, please make sure your cycle is in a roadworthy condition. Bring a puncture repair kit, a spare inner tube (or, for tubeless tyres, as appropriate), essential tools, a mobile phone if you have one, snacks, enough to drink, and sunscreen/waterproofs/warm clothing as appropriate. Don't forget your lights if you expect to be out in the hours of darkness. Please follow Cycling UK guidance and the Highway Code.
